RM Construction: Managing Covid19

Bob Gibson and Blake Piland, co-owners of RM Construction a Roaring Fork Valley builder of custom and multifamily homes feel they are fortunate to have their Roaring Fork Valley projects deemed “essential” throughout the current quarantine period.

That’s true in two of the three counties in which they are currently working on active projects.

“Garfield and Eagle Counties both considered housing projects to be essential and have given our projects, ShawdowRock Townhomes, Basalt, and Thompson Park, Carbondale their approval to continue work,” says Bob Gibson. He continues, “On the other hand, Ptiken County has not. We are fortunate to be able to continue working on new housing for our community and keep many of our team in their jobs.”

Carbondale’s Sopris Sun recently published an article with Blake Piland is quoted as saying, “Our site is an open-air location,” he said, which helps. He added that his crew is having safety meetings more than once weekly, ensuring hand hygiene, and encouraging workers to stay home if they have symptoms. “Some workers have stayed home as a precaution,” he notes. “But I’ve not heard about anyone being tested or having COVID exposure.”

The article also states that Piland said that workers on-site honor social distancing and follow the Centers for Disease Control requirements.

Regarding the effects of the virus on the Thompson Park (Carbondale, CO) project the article states, “As for the project timeline, Piland said, at this point, Phase One completion has been pushed back to late summer or early fall. But, it’s difficult to predict, he said. “If in June, we’re still battling the same thing we are now, it could be late fall.”

Blake Piland leads the Thompson Park project on Highway 133. He said the project is still in the first phase, which includes five affordable housing units. Affordable housing is one of the Governor’s construction priorities during the stay-at-home order.
